چکیده

Abstract Objectives Falls in older people can lead to serious injury and significant societal health financial burden. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is associated with impaired gait/balance may increase fall risk, yet few studies examined whether treating OSA reduces risk. This study the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on risk markers over 65yrs diagnosed OSA. Design Single arm intervention Setting University tertiary care CPAP clinic. Participants Individuals 65 years recommended CPAP. Intervention 3-6 months therapy Measurements All participants had a physiological profile assessment (PPA) at baseline following The PPA examines visual contrast sensitivity, lower limb proprioception, knee extension strength, reaction time postural sway generate score (FRS). t-tests were used determine difference between pre- post-treatment FRS. Regression was examine associations use daytime sleepiness Results significantly reduced FRS ([Mean±SD] 0.59±1.0 vs 0.04±1.1, p=0.016), sensitivity proprioception (P<005). Increased improvement unadjusted analysis (β=-0.213, 95%CI -0.371 -0.056, p=0.01). Reduction Epworth reduction (p=0.02) adjusted (p<0.03). Conclusions reduce 65yrs, possibly related better adherence sleepiness. Future controlled trials mechanistic are needed elucidate how

Non-CPAP therapies in obstructive sleep apnoea.

In view of the high prevalence and the relevant impairment of patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) lots of methods are offered which promise definitive cures for or relevant improvement of OSAS. This report summarises the efficacy of alternative treatment options in OSAS. An interdisciplinary European Respiratory Society task force evaluated the scientific literature according...

Adherence to CPAP in obstructive sleep apnoea.

Nursing implications Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a condition whereby breathing is interrupted during sleep. Patients with this condition spend less time in the deep sleep phase of the sleep cycle, leading to daytime sleepiness and problems engaging in activities of daily living. Continuous positive airway pressure provides a constant stream of pressurised air, with the aim of maintaining ...

Original articles Reduction in motor vehicle collisions following treatment of sleep apnoea with nasal CPAP

Background—Patients with untreated obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) have increased motor vehicle collisions (MVCs). When successfully treated, they report improved driving and fewer mishaps, but there are few objective data to confirm this. A study was therefore undertaken to examine actual MVC data in a large group of patients with OSA before and after treatment with continuous positive airway p...

Long-term CPAP Compliance in Women with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the treatment of choice for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), but compliance and variables involved in longterm CPAP adherence in women with OSA are unknown. We performed an observational study including all consecutive women diagnosed with OSA who started CPAP treatment in two Spanish teaching hospitals between 1999 and 2007 and were followed-up unti...
